When Apple released iOS 7.1 for iPhone 4 with 4s, 5, 5s and 5c. While iOS 7.1 works spectacularly on the 5th, iPhone 4 users may be wondering if iOS 7.1 will improve or degrade their usage. Ars Technica says, the experience is an improvement over iOS 7.0, but it’s not that good…
You also lack the same iOS 7 features that you didn’t get in Release 7.0, a list we’ll update here for your convenience along with all the iOS 5 and iOS 6 features that the iPhone 4 didn’t get.
3D flyover or Maps turn-by-turn navigation
Panorama Mode or Filters in Camera app (filters can still be applied after the fact in Photos app)
A number of new graphical effects are present on all other iOS 7. These include effects across the operating system, live wallpapers, and the parallel effect used on the home screen.
iOS 7.1 is likely the latest update for iPhone 4:
iOS 7.1 will surely be the latest major software update that the iPhone 4 ever receives. No iOS release has advanced beyond version X.1 since iOS 4.3 was released back in March 2011. There may be minor features and tweaks added to smaller updates between now and iOS 8 launch, but these are almost never have significant impacts on performance.
iOS 7 is unlikely to work better on iPhone 4 than iOS 7.1. That’s not to say the experience is great – even climbing an iPhone 4S would give you noticeable gains in performance and overall quiet – but it’s better than it was, and it’s as good as you’ll get .
If you are staying with the iPhone 4 for another year, iOS 7.1 makes the performance sufficiently tolerable that using the phone is unbearable. The benefits of trading are unclear, though – you get better performance, a bigger screen, more RAM, faster Wi-Fi and mobile speeds, and a load of extra features available only for new devices . By the time iOS 8 rolls out later this year, you should really think about growing.
